Today, while sipping my morning Americano with cream, I’m thinking through these words from the apostle Paul:
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. — Colossians 3:17
What does it mean to do everything in Jesus’s name? Does doing the dishes count? What about this simple act of making and drinking my daily cup of joe? This video from Nathan Clarke is all about the good, Christian work of making coffee:
Coffee: And It Was Very Good from Nathan Clarke on Vimeo.
We don’t always think about how making a delicious cup of coffee is one of the ways humans can reflect God’s image in the world, but when we create things, and we do so with care, imagination, and integrity, we mirror the image of the Creator. (Also, if I didn’t drink coffee, I’d probably look way less like someone created in God’s image, at least between the hours of 8 and noon.)
So, go have some coffee, then take pride in your breakfast-making/laundry-folding/paper-filing/blog-writing/positive-facebook-posting/whatever-it-is-you’re-doing today. It can all be done to God’s glory.
