How to have a peaceful Thanksgiving: First, put away your phones. Be nice to your extraverted cousins. Then, try to be a good listener at the dinner table. Say a prayer of thanks And enjoy that awesome food! If the grown-ups start talking too much about scary politics/conspiracy theories/your relationship status/why you should have children by now, you can always seek refuge at the kids’ table. Just don’t get too carried away playing with your food. Then, it’s time to cheer on your favorite football team. (Go Cowboys!) Don’t forget to help with clean-up. Then collapse on the couch with a full belly and full heart. Happy Thanksgiving, TTC readers!
Christine Hand Jones is a singer-songwriter, a professor of English and songwriting, and has served as a worship leader and church music director. She has a PhD in Literary Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas, which she earned, in large measure, by listening to the collected works of Bob Dylan and writing about what she heard. When she's not playing music or fascinating her students with stunning lectures over comma splices, Christine can be found drinking coffee, playing devoted cat mom to Desmond and Molly, and roaming the shelves of Half-Price Books.
